(20220925) UGLE: Manchester Level Club: Third Rising – September 2022 Edition

Hello and welcome to the September edition of the Third Rising from MLC where we have tried to capture some of the things that are happening within the club.

MLC Walk The Talk And Raise £6000!

On Thursday 18th August, WBro Mark Davis APGM and MLC members Bro’s Thomas Daniel and Elliot Jervis set out the 4-night, 85 mile trek following Hadrians Wall path from Bowness in Solway to Wallsend, Newcastle.

The trek was unsupported – with the small team carrying all their own food, camping gear, clothing, and equipment. Aiming to cover close to 20 miles a day, carrying 16kg packs this was later described by the team as one of the most physically demanding endeavours they had ever undertaken.

Speaking with Thomas – “It was clear from the very first few miles that this was not going to be easy. Hadrians Wall path is a well-trodden route, but of all the dozens of people we met along the way – absolutely nobody was carrying anything near what we were carrying or doing the daily milage that we were.

Staying motivated throughout the walk was sometimes challenging, but seeing the donations creep up, and waking up each morning to messages from friends asking how we were getting along really kept us going”

The team were greeted at the finish line – Wallsend Masonic Hall – by our good friends at PGL Northumberland who very kindly opened the hall, and gave a generous donation of £500 to the cause. Two of the Manchester Level Clubs own – WBro Darren Fletcher and Bro Josh Dewitt came along to see the team cross the finish line and very kindly offered a lift back to Manchester.

The final total raised was over £6000 and the team are all extremely grateful to all those who sponsored and supported the hike, and to those who followed the journey online sending kind words and encouragement along the way.

Sponsorship is still open via the link below.

Well done guys!

Knowing Me, Knowing You

As Alan Partridge once said!

The new Masonic season is upon us, now is the time we start to plan in our club visits and we like to visit as many Lodges as we can. It’s one of the best ways to get to know you better but also for you to meet other members of the club. This is where we need your help! Do you have any ceremonies coming up that would be made even more special with an MLC visit…? Maybe it’s your Passing or Raising…? Maybe you’re doing your first “big” piece of ritual and you’d like some extra support…?! Whatever it may be we want to hear from you!

The visits last season were a huge success and we had a lot of fun along the way…maybe too much in some cases! 😉Last year the majority of suggestions were from Manchester Hall based Lodges so we especially want to hear from those of you that don’t necessarily meet there!

Obviously we can’t visit every Lodge every month but give us the heads up and we’ll do the rest! Drop us an email on the usual address.

MLC Hewlett Court Fireworks

Hewlett Court Bonfire & Fireworks Display

Hewlett Court will once again be holding their annual bonfire and firework display on Friday 4th November! Last year the pandemic forced their doors to be closed to the public but this year they’re back with a Bang – see what we did there…! The evening will run from 6pm to 8pm and tickets are just £3 per person and under 16’s get in for free! There will be a selection of refreshments available during the evening including their famous Parkin, Treacle Toffee and if you’re over 18 you’ll also get a free glass of mulled wine!

Tickets are available direct from Hewlett Court. Entry will be by ticket only.

Last year we helped facilitate the evening and we’ll once again be involved! We’re in need of some extra volunteers to help us give the residents and friends and family of Hewlett Court a fantastic evening. If you can spare a few hours and want to help out then please also get in touch with us.

It’s sure to be another great evening so come and enjoy it with us. A taste of last year is in the video above.

September Social – What A Weekend

For our September we teamed up with our friends from the Young & New Masons Social, to bring a packed weekend which including a Lodge visit to Lodge of Friendship No.44 with a very joyous Social Board and an extremely interesting talk from WBro David Stevens PProvJGW on his life journey through Freemasonry.

Saturday morning we hosted a in person learning session, where many of the attendees realised how much they new each other, but had never met apart from on Zoom.

We then headed on for bowling, food & fun at Lane7 followed by a ‘cultural’ bar tour around the city!

The weekend was a great success and bought fellow masons together from London, Dorset, Wocestershire, Salford and Manchester.

Look out for our next event – details coming soon!
