August Update

August 25, 2025

HIGH TWELVE IS FAMILY FELLOWSHIP FUTURE

International President – Jared Kichline – PA

It has been a little over one month since I have had the good fortune to be installed International President of High Twelve International and what a month it has been. Representing our great fraternity is a true privilege. As I travel to different events High Twelve is treated with respect, and we should be proud. Visiting the Clubs and associations is a lot of fun. Last week I had the opportunity to hear a great program on amateur radio operators and assist the Club President in presenting the Grand Master of New Jersey with an honorary membership to their club. As I write this update I am packing to attend the Illinois State High Twelve Association annual meeting. I am sure good things await the trip.

As always, we will focus on our philanthropy the Wolcott Foundation giving outstanding students the opportunity to fallow their goals and at the same time infusing Masonic principles and values in their work. The ways to support are numerous. The Little Red School House proudly displayed at our meeting collects donations to go directly to the Wolcott Foundation.  You can also choose to donate to the Century Club or the Wolcott Club so we can continue our great philanthropy work with the Wolcott Foundation. I encourage everyone to go to Wolcottfoundation.com and watch one of the amazing Fellows videos.

I look forward to seeing our members as I travel to the various clubs and associations. Please let me know if your club or association is planning a special event this year.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions about our fraternity. You are part of the High Twelve family and I look forward to hearing from you.

Your support of or fantastic fraternity and philanthropy truly inspires me, and I thank each and every one of you for dedication to High Twelve International, Inc.

Respectfully,

Jared R. Kichline
International President
2025-2026

FAMILY FELLOWSHIP FUTURE!

International 2nd VP – John Blondell – IL

I bring you greeting from the Land of Lincoln.  WOW! What a great International High 12 meeting in Orlando it was great to see new faces from many states.  From Colorado to New Jersey to Illinois and Pennsylvania.  No, I will not leave out Florida or Texas.

However, it would have been nice to see others from Indiana, Iowa, Ohio and other independent clubs.

Congratulations to Jared Kichline, our new International President for 2025 – 2026, and the officers. I believe the new officers will take on new challenges for the upcoming year.  Many changes were voted upon, and I hope that these adjustments will make our organization grow for the future.  As for having the convention in Florida, I believe you can set a clock to the afternoon and evening thunderstorms.  It almost felt like I was back home in the Midwest where the weather, give it some time, it will change.  I will have more to come in the months ahead.  However, I would like “Shout Out” to one of the active clubs in Illinois.  Prior to our International meeting I attended Quincy’s High 12 Club.  It did not rain on their picnic.

Quincy High 12 Club #40 held their annual family picnic on Wednesday, June 18th in Quincy.  However, due to inclement weather the club had to move the picnic indoors.  The picnic was to be located at Bob Mays Park but instead it was held at Quincy Lodge.  We were served fried chicken and fried catfish with baked beans, cole slaw and potatoes.  Dessert was great and everyone loved that chocolate cake with chocolate icing with cookies.  52 members, ladies and guests were present at the picnic.  The club celebrated four birthdays. Ms. Glorena Wheelan was celebrating her 95th birthday with the club.  It was great to see her smile. As always, the fellowship and hospitality were first class.

I look forward to visiting clubs throughout High 12 International have share our brotherhood within our fraternity.

MASONIC MUSINGS ON MORTALITY

Old Age Is Coming To You – Pope

Old age is coming to you, my Brother, dark shadowed on the swift wings of time.

Thinking about how to imagine looking back on my life in the future when near death, forced me to consider what was important to do in life then and going forward to consider looking at backwards in my past imagined future.

Alexander Pope (born 21 May 1688 – died 30 May 1744) was an English poet, satire author, and translator in London, England. Swift became an absolute expert in satiric deadpan, ironic style of writing essays and books. Pope was a colleague and friend of satirist Jonathan Swift. Some of Pope’s work included The Rape of the Lock, An Essay on Criticism, The Dunciad, An Essay on Man, and his premier translation of the Roman author Homer’s work into English. Pope edited some lines of Shakespeare’s work as well.

Rendering to AI, “Alexander Pope was a Freemason. He was a member of Lodge No. 16, which met at the “Goat at the Foot of the Haymarket” tavern in London. This lodge was constituted in 1729. Jonathan Swift was also a member of this lodge. Pope’s membership in this specific lodge is well-documented.”

Pope was not allowed, due to the laws current at the time preventing those not Catholic Church members from attending universities, teaching, voting, or holding public office. Alexander’s aunt taught him to read. Pope later attended Twyford School, in 1698, and two Roman Catholic schools in London illegally. Pope read any available literature ravenously and further educated himself. He is considered one of the most prominent poets of the 18th century.

Pope is still frequently quoted for his famous phrases like, “To err is human; to forgive, divine”; ‘Fools rush in where angels fear to tread;”; “A little learning is a dangerous Thing;” “If you want to know what God thinks about money just look at the people He gives it to;”  “You purchase pain with all that joy can give and die of nothing but a rage to live;” and “Blessed is he who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed.”

Pope’s most well-known poem is, The Rape of the Lock. It is a satire a ridiculous high-society dispute where an English Lord clipped a lock of hair from a so-called Lady’s head, but without her permission. The crux of the poem mocks the waste of useful human endeavor to focus on frivolous, non-productive pursuits by the gentry in the then current-time English society. I encourage you to read it.

Pope’s An Essay on Criticism, chastised other poets who placed excessive value on following rhyme and meter in poetry from ancient poets and 18th century government rules to write poetry, than on more recent thoughts, topics, and innovative ideas. It is another work of useful, and relevant satire.

Brother Pope spent years translating the ancient original text written by Homer from the epic ancient poems, The Iliad, and The Odessey. They remain the best translations available.

Pope created a subscription series for his volumes of The Iliad. He published one each year for six years. Alexander Pope was paid 200 guineas for each volume. That was a lot of money in his era of life!

Pope had tuberculosis in his spine at 12 years old. It affected his health throughout his life. He died at the age of 56. He always lived as he wanted. He left a great legacy. He was a great man and a great Mason.

According to Wikipedia, “when told by his physician, on the morning of his death, that he was better, Alexander Pope replied: ‘Here am I, dying of a hundred good symptoms.’ He died at his villa surrounded by friends on 30 May 1744, about eleven o’clock at night. On the previous day, 29 May 1744, Pope had called for a priest and received the Last Rites of the Catholic Church. He was buried in the nave of St Mary’s Church, Twickenham.”

Alexander Pope died 281 years ago. You might take a moment now to ponder what some Mason in the future can say about the life you led in a brief article 281 years from now.

Tria Luminaria High Twelve Club #808 – IL

Dear Brothers & Friends,

On Thursday, August 21st, 2025, Tria Luminaria High Twelve Club No. 808 gathered at Jerusalem Temple Lodge in Aurora, IL for our long-awaited Summer Cookout. This was our rescheduled event from earlier in the summer when extreme weather kept us indoors—but it was worth the wait!

It was an intimate evening filled with fellowship, laughter, and great conversation. And while our President, Brock, already wears many titles—Mason, graffiti artist, podcaster, photographer, esoteric philosopher, Honda race car driver, and proud father—we can now officially add Chef to the list. Brock prepared a delicious meal that everyone enjoyed, making the night even more special.

We also took a heartfelt moment to show appreciation to Brothers John & Jim Essig, two pillars of the local Masonic community. President Brock, along with Vice Presidents Anthony & Jose, led the club in recognizing their dedication and impact.

A key discussion of the evening centered on moving our regular meetings from the 3rd Thursday to the 1st Wednesday of each month. Our Charter President—and newly installed District Deputy Grand Master of the 7-North District, Patrick J. Robin—has been working to align schedules across Lodges, Shrine Clubs, and Ritual Schools. His conclusion: the 1st Wednesday best supports fellowship and teamwork across our Masonic district.

We’ll test this change with our next meeting on Wednesday, October 1st at a TBD restaurant in the Aurora area. If this works as well as expected, we’ll take steps to adjust our bylaws accordingly.

Finally, be sure to check out the great photos from the night—they capture the fun and spirit of the evening perfectly.
