Here is our latest installment of research papers from Virginia Research Lodge No. 1777. If you would like to be added to the list, or have a friend who would like to be on the list, just send me an email or message. This week’s submission is from Wor. Jeffrey G. Burcham, entitled “Freemasonry in Winchester During the Civil War” which was presented to Virginia Research Lodge No. 1777 on March 18, 2000.

This paper provides details of how the Civil War affected the activities of Winchester Hiram Lodge, including a visit from a well-known Masonic President, William McKinley. The author describes the beautiful Masonic frescoes painted in the lodge room.
